OCD Coaching

Healing From OCD Is Hard Enough. Understanding OCD and OCD Treatment Shouldn't Be.

Maybe you've already read about OCD. Maybe you've watched videos, listened to podcasts, joined online communities, or even worked with a therapist.

And yet you still have questions.

Is this an obsession or a legitimate concern?

Is what I'm doing actually a compulsion or safety behavior?

What is ERP supposed to accomplish? How does it work?

Am I supposed to make my anxiety go away—or learn how to experience it differently?

Why do I understand OCD intellectually but still feel so confused when I'm in the middle of it?

OCD can be remarkably difficult to understand. And when you don't understand the processes keeping OCD going, it can be difficult to make sense of what you're experiencing or the treatment you're receiving.

That's where specialized OCD consultation can help.

(OCD coaching is a casual term for OCD consultation)

Get a Clearer Map of OCD

OCD consultation provides access to specialized psychoeducation about OCD and the principles underlying evidence-based treatment.

Rather than providing psychotherapy, consultation helps you understand the map so that you can make better use of it yourself or alongside your current therapist.

Depending on your questions, consultation can help you better understand:

  • How intrusive thoughts develop into obsessive problems

  • The OCD cycle and the role of compulsions and safety behaviors

  • Why reassurance and attempts to achieve certainty can keep OCD going

  • Mental rituals and other compulsions that can be difficult to recognize

  • Why trying to suppress intrusive thoughts often backfires

  • The role of uncertainty in OCD

  • The principles underlying Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • Contemporary inhibitory-learning approaches to exposure

  • Distress tolerance and psychological flexibility

  • The role of anxiety, guilt, shame, disgust, sadness, and other painful emotions in OCD

  • Common misunderstandings about OCD and its treatment

  • What current research tells us about evidence-based approaches to OCD

The goal isn't simply to give you more information.

It's to help you develop a coherent understanding of what you're experiencing and the principles used to address it.

Bring Your Questions. Leave With Greater Clarity.

You don't need another generic explanation of OCD.

Consultation gives you an opportunity to ask questions about the concepts that are confusing or particularly relevant to your experience.

We can examine those questions through the lens of contemporary OCD research and evidence-based treatment principles, helping you understand how the broader science of OCD may relate to the questions you're trying to answer.

You leave with knowledge you can use to make more informed decisions and have more productive conversations about your care.

Keep Your Therapist. Add Specialized OCD Knowledge.

You don't need to change therapists to benefit from specialized OCD expertise.

You may already have a therapist you know and trust but want a deeper understanding of OCD than your current treatment setting can provide.

OCD consultation can serve as an educational complement to your existing care.

Your therapist remains responsible for your psychotherapy. Consultation provides an additional source of specialized OCD knowledge.

Specialized OCD Consultation—Wherever You Are

Finding someone with specialized knowledge of OCD can be difficult, particularly if you live in an area with limited access to OCD specialists.

Because OCD consultation is a psychoeducational service rather than psychotherapy, consultations can generally be provided across geographic boundaries, including internationally, where permitted.

That means you don't necessarily need an OCD specialist practicing in your city, state, or country to gain access to specialized OCD education. You can continue working with your existing therapist while adding consultation from an OCD specialist, wherever you happen to live.

A Simple Three-Step Process

1. Bring your questions.
Identify the aspects of OCD or evidence-based treatment you want to better understand.

2. Build your understanding.
Use consultation to learn relevant concepts, research, and treatment principles from an OCD specialist.

3. Take that knowledge with you.
Apply what you've learned independently or bring it back to your current therapist for further discussion and clinical application.

How Does OCD Consultations Work?

OCD consultations are conducted remotely using secure telehealth software, allowing you to participate from the privacy and convenience of your own space.

Each consultation is 53 minutes and is tailored to the psychoeducational topics and questions you would like to better understand.

Because consultation is designed to increase your knowledge rather than provide ongoing psychotherapy, you can use what you learn independently or bring the information back to your current therapist to explore within your treatment.

Cost

The fee is $475 per 53-minute consultation.

OCD consultation is offered as a private-pay psychoeducational consultation service.

You Don't Have to Navigate OCD With an Incomplete Map

When OCD is confusing, it's easy to spend enormous amounts of time trying to figure out whether you're approaching it correctly.

Greater understanding doesn't make the work effortless.

But it can give you something extremely valuable:

a clearer idea of what you're dealing with, why certain approaches work, and what questions are worth asking as you move forward.
